VIOLIN & VIOLA LESSONS IN A friendly, comfortable setting. Anthony Serafini is Adjunct Professor of Violin in the Division of Fine & Performing Arts, Centenary College in Hackettstown, which draws students from all parts of the globe.
BACKGROUND: Anthony Serafini won the 1st prize in the Premier New York City Violin Competition among numerous other awards. He studied with a number of fine teachers, including the legendary Arnold Steinhardt of the Curtis Institute of Music and 1st Violin of the Guarneri String Quartet. He began his studies with Ralph Wade, concertmaster of the Buffalo Philharmonic, then continued with the eminent violinist Louis Krasner, concertmaster of the Minneapolis Symphony and Professor of Violin at the New England Conservatory of Music and Tanglewood. He also studied with University of Minnesota Violin Virtuoso and Professor of Violin Young-Nam Kim, participating in chamber music ensembles and recitals. He was the concertmaster of the Cornell University Symphony and interim concertmaster of the Binghamton Symphony among others. The Syracuse Herald-Journal described his playing "the summit of violin virtuosity, gliding through the most difficult passages with consummate ease and a gorgeous tone." He later premiered "Sonata for Two Violins" by Professor Alfred Hoose of Boston State College (now part of the University of Massachusetts/Boston) Though mostly retired now, very recently, on December 2 of this year, Professor Serafini gave a recital at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in Chester, NJ, performing the third movement of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. He has taught a number of professional violinists, including Wendy Davis (see below). Mr. Serafini also has a Ph.D. in Philosophy, specializing in contemporary analytic philosophy.
